In Estill chiaroscuro, soft-and-dark vs. loud-and-bright on the same pitch is how a phrase carries emotional contrast. Each trial: same pitch on /a/, once soft and dark, once loud and bright. We want the loud take ≥ 6 dB louder than the soft AND ≥ 100 Hz brighter (centroid).
